All of us here at the Animal Welfare League want to give a big "Thank You" to Tim Tilton and airWorx for the use of their equipment to install a garage.

KATHERINE CECH
LAKELAND CHRISTIAN ACADEMY and the ANIMAL WELFARE LEAGUE have lost a wonderful, beautiful person who loved both organizations. Katherine Cech was diagnosed with cancer and spent most of last year dealing with chemo and treatments and loss of hair and impossible odds. We at the shelter have never met a person more courageous, more generous and more amazing. She came often with her students. She fostered pets for us. She always believed her life was in God's hands and trusted Him with it. She encouraged her students to care for the animals she loved as she guided them on their trips to the shelter and led them in the ways they could be of service to the animals in our care. She lived and led her students by her kind and loving example. We will miss her deeply and we will give her a place of honor on our memorial page.
THANK YOU MS CECH and thank you students at Lakeland Christian Academy for your devotion to her and our shelter.
THE STORY OF THE PUPPY SIMON
Hello, my name is "Simon."
About 6 weeks ago someone dumped me and my brothers and sisters out along the road near a rural mailbox in "brrrr" freezing weather. We huddled together as good as we could and kept trying to find our mommy, but we couldn't even climb out of the cold cardboard box we were so small. The weather was so cold--about twenty degrees--and we were very weak and frightened. We might have died but a nice lady who lived at that mailbox came and found us and took us to the Animal Welfare League. I was really scared.
Then, something amazing happened. We were loved and hugged and cuddled and we got food and water and warm blankets to snuggle in. I was in the first batch and there were 7 of us.(I heard there was another batch that was dropped off about a week later too). The people at that shelter were so nice to us and they were going to take us home themselves, but they started calling and asking the newspaper to help and you know what? A whole bunch of people came in and offered to "foster" us and save us! (They rescued the other puppies too). I was rescued by a super nice couple who took me home and got up all hours of the night at first just to be sure I was OK and fed and warm. It was heaven after what I'd been through. I really liked Michele and Mike and they really liked me too. In fact, it wasn't long before they decided they would officially adopt me! The same thing happened to at least 4 of my siblings so far...isn't that great? Now I'm much bigger and I can sit and stay and I'm even learning to shake hands! I have a great big basketball I like to push around the floor and Michele says I have a great big appetite too! Some stories have a good ending...and this is one of them! Thank you AWL,
Love, Simon
