Hello fellow animal enthusiast!
My goals as your Animal Welfare League Executive Director are many, but a primary thread that weaves through all those goals of mine, includes a strong devotion to the animals in this shelter. I happen to like the word "shelter" for that is exactly what we hope to provide...a place of safety and shelter for the animals in our care. Our mission statement is important. I would like to share it with you.
The MISSION of the Animal Welfare League is to provide first-class care for the animals in our charge and to challenge our community to do the same.
We have a wonderful staff of employees and marvelous volunteers who also have that goal in mind. Some of our employees and their jobs are listed below. We are constantly looking for new ways to benefit our animals and the shelter. If you have time, treasure or talent you can share with us, we will welcome you to do so.
Sincerely, Darla McCammon

Some of our staff you might enjoy meeting are:
Tracy - our senior lab person. Tracy has much experience working with animals in a veterinarian environment. She also has a great deal of expertise in animal behavior and breeding. She has been on board at the shelter for nearly a year now and has been invaluable for her wisdom and assistance in making changes in protocols to improve animal care.
Lawrence - a degree as an LPN gives Lawrence versatility and ability in working at the shelter. With plans to continue his medical pursuits, Lawrence is also giving a great deal of his efforts and conscientious work to the shelter in benefit of the animals that reside here. From cleaning cages to assisting in the lab he is constantly helping others. His friendly engaging manners have made him many friends at the shelter as well as with our clients.
Jim - a military career and experience in the field have given Jim the patience to deal with people, clients and animals in the shelter. Jim is willing to do any job requested of him with a smile, something unique in today's experience. Jim cleans kennels or floors with equal aplomb and loves all the animals.
Linda - Lab Tech / Kennel Tech/ Behaviorist. Linda is one of many employees who have been "cross-trained" this year. Cross training has allowed employees to learn other aspects of the shelter business and helps to cover for vacations, absences and emergencies. Linda has former experience with a shelter in Chicago, about 6 months with a local vet, and about 2 1/2 years at AWL.
Kathy - Business Coordinator. Kathy works 1/2 day Tuesday through Saturday. She has experience from her former position in the insurance industry and works for the shelter in the clerical/administrative assistant spheres of our business. Kathy has also been cross-trained in order to handle adoptions, pay bills, help with customer service etc.. Kathy has almost a year with AWL.
Angi - Lab Tech / Kennel Tech / Behaviorist. Angie has been at the shelter nearly a year now and has prior experience working at a shelter in Pennsylvania. She is also becoming cross-trained and can handle the adoption process as well as working on behavior testing of our animals. Her main responsibilities, however, are as a Lab Tech and Kennel Tech.
Beth - Kennel Tech/ feline behavior. Beth is currently getting cross-trained with feline behavior in order to temperament test our feline inhabitants. She provides work as a kennel tech, a job which requires knowledge of proper feeding amounts, proper cleanliness protocols for healthy animals, good animal handling ability, etc.
Trudy- Volunteer Coordinator / Adoption Coordinator. Trudy has been in training this year and is learning well. Her position as volunteer coordinator has enhanced our shelter operations with a new level of volunteer that has been most helpful. She is also cross training and can now function as an adoption counselor in order to process pet adoptions. Trudy recently had a heart attack (last week) and is now recuperating. Please keep her in your prayers as she is a valuable employee and is sorely missed.
Ashley - Adoption Coordinator/ Supervisor. Ashley is in charge of the front office which includes, phone coverage, customer coverage, adoption processes, volunteer coordinator, financial processing and more. Ashley has been here since August 2006 and has assisted with cross-training other employees this year in order to better facilitate customer service and place employees where most needed.
Sue - Kennel tech. Sue our "cat lady," is predominantly responsible for the health, well-being, and cleanliness of our feline residents. Employed here since December 2002, her loyalty is evident. Her dedication to all our felines and their proper feeding, cage/kennel cleaning, etc..and her work on laundry, kitchen and many other duties make her a helpful employee to have around.
